Flash fiction is a type of short story that is 1000 words or less. Crafting a good flash fiction piece is an art form different from novel writing or other types of writing, but learning to do it well can improve writing craft in all areas. There are many paying markets for submitting flash fiction, and having flash pieces published will help with platform building. Avily Jerome, editor of Havok Magazine, a speculative flash fiction publication, will discuss why learning to write flash fiction is important for your writing craft and your platform, and explore the elements of quality flash fiction, giving examples of what publishers are looking for.
